Roadmap for Master's degree students

Application to First Day of Class Roadmap

If you do not already have a printed copy of the roadmap, print this one.  Keep it handy as it will help you succeed in completing all steps to becoming a student at SHIS.  (Note: This roadmap assumes that you are admitted and register for the semester in which you are admitted.)

  1. Submit an application available on the Registrar's website. (Instructions and Application)
  2. You will receive an acknowledgement letter with your A# and your PIN.
  3. Record your A# and PIN here A _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _   PIN _ _ _ _
  4. Check UTLink for the status of your application.  When your application is complete, UTLink will list it as "pending".
  5. Student Affairs will contact you with the admission's committee decision.
  6. If you have been recommended for an interview, you must form an advising committee consisting of two faculty advisors. To form your advising committee you must email or call potential faculty advisors to seek their consent to be on your committee.
  7.  Schedule an interview with your advising committee. 
  8. Based on the interview, if your advising committee agrees to admit you to the masters degree program, you will receive a letter of admission from Student Affairs.  It will include instructions for completing New Student Orientation online.
  9. Submit items as indicated in the Letter of Admission.  Check UTLink as you complete the items below, each hold on your registration should be removed.
    1. Letter of Acceptance stating that you accept your position SEND TO Registrar
    2. $50 to hold your place (applied to your tuition and fees) SEND TO Registrar
    3. Residency Status Questionnaire SEND TO Registrar
    4. Immunization Form SEND TO Student Health
    5. Health Insurance Waiver (if you have health insurance) SEND TO Auxiliary Enterprise
    6. Complete criminal background check per instructions.
    7. Provide any documents, scores, etc to meet the conditions that may be listed on your letter of admission.
  10. Complete New Student Orientation by following instructions provided.
  11. Select courses for your first semester (Course Offerings)
    1. Contact each course instructor for permission to take the course.
    2. Contact Student Affairs with the instructor permission to get the approval number to register.
    3. Record all of your courses below:

  12. Check the Booklist for the current semester and buy the required textbooks/resources.
  13. Register & pay fees in UTLink.  Contact appropriate office for any remaining holds.  Contact Student Affairs if problems clearing holds persist.
  14. Student affairs will call you to give you an LDAP ID, password, and UT email address. This will happen after the first day of class and only if you have registered and made payment. After you receive your LDAP ID and password, go here to change your password so only you know what it is. DO NOT SHARE YOUR ID AND PASSWORD. Record your email address below.

  15. Use your LDAP ID and password to log into Moodle, the courseware system for SHIS.  The classes you are enrolled in show up on the left hand side under "My Courses".  If the classes there do not match what you registered for in UTLink, please contact  Student Affairs right away.
  16. Get an ID badge for building access from Bursar's Office.  See Student Affairs for access to SHIS specific areas.
  17. Go to class. If you have completed all steps successfully, you should be ready for your first semester.
