Admission Flow

The School of Health Information Sciences has a multi-entry program. Students holding a baccalaureate degree can apply for the Certificate Program, Master of Science degree or the Doctor of Philosophy degree programs. The requirements for each of the application processes are discussed at the links above.

There are several options for enrollment at SHIS. A masters student can likewise apply to the PhD track while still enrolled in the MS program. The student must meet all of the admission requirements for the PhD degree. All students in the PhD track are admitted to the PhD program after they have completed the candidacy examinations. Likewise a PhD student who completed the requirement for a MS can be awarded for the MS degree.

A student may finish a MS in Health Informatics before applying to the PhD but it is not a requirement. All PhD degree plans are built post-baccalaureate and not post-masters. Any courses that the student has completed may be considered by the student's advising committee to apply toward requirements of the PhD degree.
