Information for Postdoctoral Fellows
Post doctoral positions are arranged on an individual basis. Funding opportunities are available through individual research grants or centers affiliated through the school such as the W.M. Keck Center for Computational & Structural Biology and the Center for Biosecurity and Public Health Informatics Research.
University-wide resources for prospective and current postdoctoral fellows are available at the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs.
Certificate Program for Post Doctoral Training
The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHSC-H) is implementing an academic Postdoctoral Certificate Program that will serve as a formal mechanism to develop the professional and research skills of our Postdoctoral Fellows.
What is the Postdoctoral Certificate Program?
It is a 2 year (6 semester) program, comprised of 15 semester credit hour (SCH) of training that meets the new National Institute of Health (NIH) requirements for postdoctoral training.
What do I take?
Career Development course HI 7100 (1 SCH)
Scientific Seminars HI 7150 (1 SCH)
Supervised Research HI 7200 (2 SCH) must be taken each semester
1 Elective of your choice (1 SCH)
Each semester you register for Supervised Research. The other three courses can be taken in any of 6 semester. Each of the 1 SCH classes need to be taken only once.
Program Cost
Participants pay nothing for this program. All tuition and fees for this program will be paid by the institution.
How much time will you be out of the lab?
Each semester, the participants will register for Supervised Research. This course requires no class attendance and is pass/fail. This will allow participants to plan ahead for registering for the Career Development course, seminars and elective.
Program Benefits
This program offers its participants a unique opportunity to enhance their scientific research skills by providing academic course work that is not traditionally offered in Postdoctoral training positions. Furthermore, participation in the program will provide access to student services at no charge such as the UT Recreation Center on Knight Road, the Student Health Clinic in the Medical School, the Student Counseling Service in the University Center Tower and shuttle bus service.
