Congratulations to new faculty member Trevor Cohen, MBChB, PhD
New faculty member Trevor Cohen, MBChB, PhD, assistant professor, has made it into Science Direct’s “Top 25 Hottest Articles” for a paper he wrote while at Arizona State University.
Cohen’s paper was the 22nd most downloaded between April and June of this year out of the more than 2000 Elsevier Journals. This is believed to be the first time a paper published in the Journal of Biomedical Informatics has been in the top 25.
Cohen’s paper, co-written with Google computational linguist Dominic Widdows, is titled “Empirical distributional semantics: Methods and biomedical applications.” It discusses computational approaches that learn associations between terms from electronic text, and how these have been used in the biomedical domain.
Cohen joined The University of Texas School of Health Information Sciences at Houston earlier this year and will continue his work in this area at the school and with the newly formed Center for Cognitive Informatics and Decision Making.
