The University of Texas School of Health Information Sciences, in collaboration with the Texas Heart Institute, is hosting the Texas Medical Center Cardiovascular Regeneration Seminar Series and Workshop. This program consists of seminars through the Fall of 2008 and a focused workshop on the 16th and 17th of December 2008.

This program consists of seminars through the Fall of 2008 and a focused workshop on the 16th and 17th of December 2008.
The program will bring together the worlds best scientists in the field of cardiac regeneration research. Keynote Speakers featured at this event include:

Attendees and Registration: Online registration is now closed. Late registrations on-site will be accepted.
There is no registration fee for the Workshop. All meals while attending the workshop will be provided, including breakfast and lunch on both days, and a special Workshop Dinner at Trevisio on the night of the 16th. If you have any special dietary requirements, please provide them on the Comments section of the Registration form.
Tentative schedule of events at Workshop:
The overall goal of the Workshop is to Sketch a Roadmap to the creation of the first Bioartificial Heart. The workshop will proceed in the following fashion:
First, workshop attendees will be assigned to a Specific Breakout Group:
Group 1: Tissue Engineering Considerations (Leader: Tony Mikos, Co-leader: Jeff Jacot)
Group 2: Mathematical Underpinnings (Leader: Tom Hughes, Co-leader: Suncica Canic)
Group 3: Surgical Criteria: (Leader: David Schaffer, Co-leader: Ravi Bellamkonda)
Group 4: Imaging Support (Leader: David McPherson, Co-leader: Ananth Annapragada)
The charge to each Breakout Group is to create a List of Projects in the Group’s area, the results of which will be key to the creation and successful use, of a true Bioartificial Heart. Breakout groups will meet in 3 pre-arranged sessions, during the Workshop. At the end of the Workshop, each Breakout Group will report the result of their deliberations, in the form of a brief presentation to the workshop attendees. The presentations will be compiled into the final roadmap by the Workshop Organizers. The final roadmap along with the workshop activity summary will be published in a suitable journal.
Each Breakout Group will be facilitated by one or two leaders. A scribe will be available in each group.
Group rosters will be made available prior to the workshop. Each Breakout Group will meet separately, following the keynote lectures in a session. The Breakout groups will explore the key issues in their specified area, including the information presented in the keynotes. The Leader, Co-leader and Scribe will assemble the key points into a Slide Deck that will be used in the final Report-Out session.
