HI 5000 Technical Writing for Health Informatics

Credit Hours: 3

This course assists the student in the area of professional writing, the development of scholarly and academic writing abilities. Each student will complete the process of generating a written document from topic selection through outlining and drafting. Writing in the field of Health Informatics will be addressed and the student will explore the genre of written discourse in informatics.



Prerequisites

This course is required if your GRE verbal score is below 640 or if your MAT score is below 432. If your test scores are above these two thresholds, this course can be waived with approval. This course will not be used as credit for your degree plan.

Course Objectives

At the completion of the course and the activities, the students will have had an opportunity to:

  • Discuss the significance of scholarly and academic writing for career development and the area of Health Informatics.
  • Discuss the process and principles of generating professional writing
  • Identify a topic and complete the process of generating a scholarly and academically written document.
  • Identify and evaluate the genre of written discourse in the discipline of informatics.
